The BMW Motorrad ended the 2015 business year by marking its fifth consecutive all-time best sales year. The firm delivered a total of 136,963 bikes worldwide last year, recording a 10.9% increase over its 2014 sales figures.

BMW negated to mention which specific model is driving its global sales in 2015, but experts believe that either BMW R1200 GS series or the acclaimed BMW S1000RR supersports series are the key drivers here. Furthermore, the latter model led the brand’s sales increase within the American market in 2015. BMW Motorrad America reportedly saw a 9.3% growth in 2015 as deliveries totalled at 16,330 units in the USA alone.

Globally, it seems unlikely that the S1000RR superrsport has outsold the R1200 GS series. Not to be discounted here too for contributing significantly in 2015 as well are the likes of the BMW S1000R streetfighter and S1000XR adventure sport models.

BMW Motorrad’s growth is expected to continue over the next several years following the debut of its new BMW G310R baby model. The entry-level naked, which is made in India with partners TVS, will allow BMW Motorrad to gain more customers from this segment as well.

The G310R could potentially grant the same positive effect on the BMW Motorrad as what Austrian rivals KTM enjoyed when it first introduced its small-capacity models. By having this ‘go big by going small’ plan, KTM saw itself reaching sales figures never before seen in its history, and BMW Motorrad will likely replicate that success with the G310R and its rumoured siblings.
